In July 2015, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) launched a review process for the “Review of the regulatory framework for french-language vocal music applicable to the french-language commercial radio sector” to examine francophone quotas on radio.
SODRAC contributed by publishing a brief advocating for French-language songwriters, which you can read here (French version only), leading up to the hearings that were to be held in November 2015.
The CRTC had to suspend its work following the departure of one of its commissioners, but the recent appointment of Ms. Judith Anne LaRocque as Vice-President, Broadcasting, made it possible to reactivate them. A notice has been issued to that effect, and we are awaiting further developments as to the dates of the new hearings. We will keep you informed of our interventions.
